omega: you can't check everything and you make a terrific work on the modules - Thanks a lot !!! This sentence is worth to be quoted.... ;D Thank's a lot This is one of the questions I was waiting for and this shows that not may are using the modules or at least not with all of its capabilities.... Yes, you're right: in the current version the link to the module property page is not handled correctly by the software. Thecus knows this and this should be fixed for the final release. As so often, there are two options: 1) Enter the correct link yourself: for module DEMOMOD the link to the property page will be: 1.2.3.4/adm/getform.html?name=../modules/DEMOMOD/www/index2) If you're talented and if you have installed and enabled the IMGDUP module, edit the file /img/www/htdocs/adm/getform.html: Change the lines $htm=$_REQUEST['name']; if (!$htm){ print 'no name given'; exit; }
to $htm=$_REQUEST['name']; $module=$_REQUEST['Module']; if (!$htm && !$module){ print 'no module or name given'; exit; }
and the line include("$htm.htm");
to if ($module) { include("../modules/$module/www/index.htm"); } else { include("$htm.htm"); }
That's it! Andreas

Hi mates, for everybody who's suffering not to be able to install any modules after upgrading to 1.00.06.5, I have created a patch module which renames the directory /raid/data/module to /raid/data/module.save. The module is called RENMOD and you can get it here: onbeat.dk/thecus/index.php/N5200_Module:_RENMODThis module can be installed on every firmware available up to now (1.00.06.5). Please notice again: this patch is only needed on N5200 with firmware >= 1.00.06.5 which have had modules installed previously. After you "installed" this module, please reboot your N5200 and everything should be OK now - you should be able to install modules now. All the best.... Andreas

Thanks a lot omega - the preferences are working now.
I had to install the IMGDUP module in any way, cause I disabled anonymous ftp access and for that I had to change a parameter in the /img/bin/rc/rc.ftpd file.
Had to dig out vi usage knowledge - it's almost 20 years since I have used vi.
Some remark to the IMGDUP module: - an installtion gives a "installation has failed" - You can enable it and it does then the work, but it stays disabled -the preference page can not be accessed (module not enabled).
I have installed now: IMGDUP SSHD SYSUSER INFO META
all are working now fine.
META gives me an easy possibility to install other Software - I don't realy understand how to build modules and I want to install Twonkyvision with the help of META.
Edited : one of the modules has removed the folders nsync, usbcopy and usbhdd from the folder list of the admin pages - the folders are still there, but I can't administer them via web.
br Peter

Peter, for the IMGDUP problems: I cannot reproduce the error you're seeing. Can you post the relevant parts of the installation E-Mail. If you haven't configured E-Mail notification, in the directory /raid/data/module/log are all the log files (one for each module holding the last install/uninstall attempt and one for each module with the complete log history). And even if the module isn't shown as enabled, using the direct link you need to use you shouldn't see the message "module is disabled", isn't it? Sure not: I'm not touching the smb.conf file. Please check the file /etc/samba/smb.conf - all shares you're seeing in the admin pages are taken from here, and if they are missing, then 100% sure it was none of my modules.... Andreas

If I had been patient enough, I could have just waited for your RENMOD patch, but I couldn't wait I was in a hurry, so I wrote a patch to just go out and delete the folder and that worked just fine. I like your idea better. Teng

omega: you can't check everything and you make a terrific work on the modules - Thanks a lot !!! I second this quote, thanks for all the work on the modules, I am slowly working my way to actually writing one myself, but I need yours to start ;D Teng

omegaIMGDUP : no, I can't reproduce the error, have uninstalled it and reinstalled - now the installation was fine and the preferences page shows up. There were no errors in the log files from the first installation. Notification mail : I've recognized a difference in the notification mails and the mails from the modules in the From adress. notification mails : admin@<nas name>.<domain> module mails : thecus@<nas name> Therefore I missed the module mails - have reconfigured now my mail server and they get through now. smb.conf : Yep, I've already checked it and these folders are missing. OK, I can manually add them by editing the file directly. Nevertheless - there seems to be somewhere a problem - may be I can figure it out during the weekend. br Peter

Peterfu, I think we must have twin N5200 separated at birth ;D
I have the following modules installed: IMGDUP SSHD SYSUSER META
I have the same problem as peterfu, the preference does not work, I didn't know that was suppose to be a preference page, just got the "no name given" error. Since I know what it is now, I will correct that when I get home today.
The IMGDUP always show up as disabled no matter how many times I click on the enable option. I didn't try testing it to see if it worked, but if it worked on peterfu's it is probably the same. I also got the "installation has failed" error.
Anyway, since the IMGDUP was always disabled, I decided to uninstall it. Once this was done, SSH no longer worked, the web admin no longer worked, shares were still available, but that was it. I rebooted and things seemed ok again. Tried again and got the same thing. Will look at it again later to see.

Hi kniteowl, seems we have similar needs Have removed now IMGDUP, cause the installed modules were always not started during boot - after removing IMGDUP I rebootet, removed all other modules and installed them again - now it works and i try to get what I want with META. My software development experience is many, many years ago, so I try to go the easy way. br Peter

Hi Peter, I just installed TwonkyMusic on my N5200 (manually). Nice programm and it works just out of the box. Will have a try with TwonkyMedia too. But the servers are commercial and need to be bought...... Are you doing a module or should I do it? kniteowl Please keep me informed what you've found out. There is eally something strange going on. Please check the log directory /raid/data/module/log for log files (and there for error messages). One hint: if you install the NFSEXPORT module you are able to mount /raid/data via NFS. Then you can access the module directory tree very easy. Andreas

omega: you can't check everything and you make a terrific work on the modules - Thanks a lot !!! This sentence is worth to be quoted.... ;D Thank's a lot Here here! You've been doing fantastic work sorting these modules out and updating the Wiki with details on them too. Thank you. This is one of the questions I was waiting for and this shows that not may are using the modules or at least not with all of its capabilities.... I think you need to give people a chance with your new modules Omega. I am finding the 1.00.05 firmware near-BETA enough without taking a bigger risk on the 1.00.06.5 BETA firmware that supports your new modules. Make no error, as soon as the final version is released I'll install your new modules and try and contribute.

The reason why I decided to try the 1.00.6.5 BETA firmware was that I've been able to prove almost every change they did (compared to 1.00.05). And I've only seen reasonable bug fixes and some enhancements . It's still not perfect until now but I've sent all my findings to Thecus and they seem to try hard to get it done. Andreas

finally got time to try the new firmware + modules and it seems I've run into another problem. First I was too stupid to read and applied the firmware before renaming the /raid/data/module (though I think, since I skipped the modules you made for 1.00.005 I was ok, anyway, I only had the pre-modules patches installed).
I installed first SYSUSER and got a "install failed" page but then on the mudules page the Sysuser showed up. I also installed then SSHD, SHUTDOWN, META, INFO and FIREFLY (no more failed message for those). After that I enabled them. Enabled column then said yes, status column was blank. Clicking on the description worked (the description page was shown). Clicking on the name lead me to a blank page (http://192.168.1.100/adm/getform.html?Module=META) with "no name given" written on it. I tried rebooting but didn't help. After reading the wiki more closely, I uninstalled all modules and then installed the rename module, rebooted.
Then I reinstalled the above mentioned modules. This time no failed message on the sysuser, but I still get no status indication on the modules and still that almost blank page.

gideon007: concerning the blank preferences page omega has alredy described in this threat whats the reason and how to fix it - it's on page 2 first article from omega. omega: Yes, I know twonkymedia is payware, but I own already a licence (old one with unlimited upgrade) and it works perfectly with my Zensonic Z500 and gives a lot more possibilties to configure than the mediabolic server. I'm afraid I am not able to build a module for myself (still have not understand it completly - as I said before my development experiences are a long time ago) - I was plannig to use META instead. Question to module SYSUSER : after every reboot the password is resetted to sys, how can i avoid this.I've tried to set password directly in shell with passwd sys - without reboot it's working. Then with the usertool of the module with usertool change sys new_password (same as above). The preferences pages are not working cause I've removed IMGDUP. br Peter

Peter, you're absolutely right, d**n, too stupid, in the module.rc start/stop script I unconditionally reset the sys password instead of only checking if the sys user is present and if not setting up the sys user with the default password. I'm almost finished with the fix..... Andreas P.S. Even without the IMGDUP module you can always access the module preferences page by writing the right URL yourself.... in your posting you were just telling this to gideon007....
