Update didn't go so well for me. My box now starts up, and indicates 2.00.00.11. It shows up in the Thecus Setup Wizard, and I can alter the network settings there. However, I can't connect to the web interface and the share is also inaccessible. I attempted to use the factory_reset.sh Script... thecususergroup.proboards106.com/index.cgi?board=n5200firmware&action=display&thread=1174853425...to restore 1.00.8, but when I reboot the box just boots normally and doesn't reflash itself.

Just to clarify, you powered the box down completely then re-started it with the USB drive inserted? USB drive was empty except for the factory reset file and the firmware (and formatted FAT)?
Factory reset file had the appropriate firmware version inside the script? (earlier versions were set to flash 1.00.7)
Have you tried connecting to the secure server (https://192.168.x.x)?
Just a few ideas.

I updated to 2.00.00.11 and everything worked well. The only bug I detected so far: The N5200 does not perform the WAN/LAN exchange after power-up. I have to log in throught the web interface and perform a "Reboot". Workaround for me is to not use WAN/LAN Exchange right now.

Good question, I couldn't find anything on backing up the Flash drive. So far it sounds good, might try it out, test the AFP again. Keep us informed when you've had more time to play with it. Thx There are many ways to do this, but I just use dd to make an image and store it away. Putting the file back can be a little harder. If you still have SSH access, then it is simple, just reverse the process. If I no longer have access by SSH, then I just take the flash drive out and put it in a different machine and dd the image back. I haven't checked to see if it will boot from a usb thumb disk, if it does, then you can do it without even taking the thing apart. There are other ways to do this, but I was lazy, so I just used what I had available at hand. teng

Just to clarify, you powered the box down completely then re-started it with the USB drive inserted? Yes, with the USB drive inserted in one of the rear USB slots. USB drive was empty except for the factory reset file and the firmware (and formatted FAT)? Yes. There may be something wrong with the original USB stick I was using, as Windows no longer recognizes it. I tried again with a different stick and get slightly different behavior. With the other stick inserted, when the N5200 restarts the "Self Testing..." message is displayed and doesn't goes away (>1 hour). Factory reset file had the appropriate firmware version inside the script? (earlier versions were set to flash 1.00.7) Yes. the factory reset script posted in that thread is pre-configured for "N5200upgrade.1.00.08.bin", which I DLed from Thecus and copied to the USB disk. Have you tried connecting to the secure server (https://192.168.x.x)? Tried. I can't connect there either, though the result is a bit different. Using Firefox, on http: I get a blank page. on https: I get a "Unable to connect".

Update to 2.00.00.11 because I needed to Migrate Raid from three to five drives (RAID 5) - something that would not work for me with earlier firmware versions through 1.00.10. I updated to 2.00.00.11 and everything worked well, including the RAID Migration. No data loss or issues with the Migration -- verified data integrity (700+ GB) against full duplicate data structure using robocopy. I am also using the WAN/LAN Exchange. Seems more finished than earlier versions. The new free/used space graphics are nice. It does look like you can create more than one RAID, but I haven't tried it. Boot time after migration is very long so wait until you hear the beep to log back in. As I try new features, I will attempt to post more.

I have also upgraded (its not in production use yet due to some problems) I had no problems. There was a problem with Macs and SMB which was filenames which were too long, and PC that copied a long file name over the Mac would see it truncated. With 2.00.00.11 I can now copy a long file name over, and if a PC copies one over I see the whole name, as if I was using AFP. Don't know why, but I like it. It means I can use SMB instead of AFP (which was dame slow for me). Speed seems a little quicker to write/copy, RAID screen doesn't redraw to well in Firefox on the Mac. I see "New" "RAID config" and "Space ...." something? Rest looks good. INFO module works, haven't tested anything else yet. Will play with more tomorrow.
EDIT: just noticed in INFO the under RAID chunk size, it reports an error, but state is clean, and my spare is not showing up. Not compatible, or I have a problem? Might delete RAID and make a new one.

I had contacted them about the two issues that made me want to try the update... -Moving files from one location to an other on the NAS causes the files to become hidden -After ~1 day the NAS would drop off the network, and not become addressable again until restarted. It's logs would indicate a disk I/O error, but I could find no way of determining which disk was causing the issue. ...and have never heard back from them regarding either query. After a while of being frustrated by that I decided to try the update, but obviously haven't had much luck.

Surely one can run this firmware on N5200 or is it for the N5200PRO?
I have important data stored on this device.
Best regards,
Dominik

I was just having some communication with a n5200 Pro user. His software version is 2.00.00.11. So this appears to be the version shipping on the Pro units.
Good news is all the modules installed so far including SYSUSER, SSHD, Perl and Slimserver appear to be working OK on the n5200 Pro.

I also installed firmware 2.00.00.11 on N5200 with 3 x WD5000YS and 1 x WD5000KS in RAID 5 mode. Results for iSCSI and a "Stripe Size" of 512 KB: Write performance of big (> 1 GB) files app. 30% less than the optimum found here (Reply #7). Which means app. poor 8 MB/s now. Read performance of big files little better than before. But the benefits of iSCSI. Best regards

I saw your post. And I hoped your "Mb"s are "MB"s.
So I am surprised about my result with files larger than 800 MB which I verified with different copying methods and a stop watch.
Now I am copying about 1 TB from the mentioned N5200 to a new N5200BR PRO with 3 Hitachi HUA721010KLA330 (1TB each) in RAID 5 mode and iSCSI, Stripe Size 64 KB. Copy Handler v. 1.28 show average transfer speeds of around 10,7 MB/s only.
Best regards
