I've seen people on this board reference firmware v1.00.04 being newer than 1.00.04.9, which makes absolutely no sense to me. (For the past 15 years I've been a product manager for various software companies and if that's true then it is EXACLTY the opposite of how everyone else in the industry does things.
Can someone please comment on what is newer and how this works? Logically, 1.00.04.9 is a newer version of 1.00.04, but as I said, I've seen comments to the contrary.
Looking for someone to clarify here please... which is it? What's Thecus' crazy version numbering scheme?
Thanks!

1.00.04 did indeed come out after 1.00.04.9
I'm also not sure how that works or if 4.9 may have some beta features than 4.0.
4.0 is an official release and 4.9 is a beta.

v1.00.04 is the official release on the web site and release notes always(?) accompany the firmware. v1.00.04.9 is their beta firmware, which was never released to the public. It does not even come with release notes. IMHO, unless specifically instructed by Thecus support, I would stay away from the beta firmwares.

So then are we saying that the 4th set of digits is only for beta versions?
Is any of this confirmed or pure speculation?
Terra -- I can't believe that they would ship with Beta firmware.
Can SOMEONE from Thecus or a reseller please put the following Firmware versions in order and specify which is oldest and which is newest?
1.00.04 1.00.04.9 1.00.04.10

Jesus f**kme Christ... Thecus Is a joke from hell Hey. This is supposed to be a technical forum. Lets keep religion out of it. I'm guessing that you really dont like something. You haven't mentioned what or why... This firmware discussion really only exists because thecus make the beta firmware available to the general public. Many see it as a positive thing.

Hi all! I spoke to the thecus branch in germany about the firmware version schema they are using and the confusion they cause. This is what they told me: 1.0.4.9 was a Beta firmware only sent to people on request due to errors 1.0.4.10 is the newest firmware at the moment and in no way a beta firmware. This is the firmware I have on the second N5200 I bought some 2 weeks ago. I also told them to please monitor this forum as there are a lot of rumours going round which only result in people being afraid not to buy the N5200. I sure hope they will start answering soon. They told me they forwarded it to Taipei... whatever that means...

I just got a replacement unit from Thecus (original unit had problems with spontaneous reboots, LCD lockups, etc). The replacement unit came with 1.00.04.10 on it - so far so good, no lockups and it correctly detects my APC Back-UPS 650 on the serial port (unfortunately this is an older UPS that doesn't provide detailed battery status, just a "low battery warning").

... and I get a new N5200BR with Firmware Version 1.00.04.10Do you deliver your Products with Beta-Firmware? I can't believe this. And now i write more: 1. With 1.00.04.10 we have several login problems with straight accounts in the N5200BR. Most user/password combinations will not work, sometimes a password will accepted and then never again in the same Server/Client combination. The connection is confusing. In one situation we make a account with a phrase like "ssmad" and password "ssmad" and it doesn't work on the client for all time. We changed the password to "ssmad2" it worked. Then we changed the password back to "ssmad" and it worked!!. What the hell! 2. After explain this problems to Thecus we got from a technical assistant from Taipei a email with the information, that 1.00.04.10 [red] is[/red] a BETA FIRMWARE (his original words). He suggest us to Update to 1.00.043. He is right. After the Update All Works Fine! The result is: Thecus has deliver to us a new N5200BR with firmware 1.00.04.10 in November/December 2006 and this is a version with many problems. The technical assistant wrote to us that this is a BETA Version I say again: I can't believe this!P.S. Read the Reply #2 from N2100Owner (Administrator) he explain the firmware numbering

terra: yea, they shipped my unit with 4.9 I had no problems until deleting one share actually zeroed the whole raid filesystem. Totally unrecoverable, ext3...dammit ~900 GB gone in a few seconds thanks to beta software.
