howdy
i solved my original issue with my n5200BR (non-Pro) so i thought i'd share my solution to those with similar issues.
after trolling the net and various forums regarding my problem, i was convinced my n5200 had a dead DOM. i almost pulled the trigger on purchasing some unique parts in an attempt to resurrect my NAS (a new high capacity transcend DOM, a cross over 44 pin IDE cable and an adaptor cable to connect 44 pin cable to a desktop to copy the fw image to DOM and 512MB ram).
eventually i decided to purchase a new n5200BR Pro instead. i figured my current n5200 was starting to run out of space (5x750GB RAID 5) and the Pro version is compatible with 2TB drives where as the non-Pro tops out at 1TB drives. hardly worth IMHO for an extra 250GB over my 750GB drives.
anyway after getting the n5200BR Pro home i proceed to pull it apart. first i pulled the 128MB DOM and installed into my old n5200. no post, only flashing lights if the power button was held in. then i pulled the PSU from the PRO and plugged it into the non-PRO and it booted straight away. i powered it down and reinstalled my 5 750's and all my data was available and the RAID was healthy.
just happy all my data was there and back to GB network speeds again. my n5200 served as my network backbone. my modem/router couldn't cope with hundreds of simultaneous connections of p2p apps and kept dropping out not to mention crap 100MB network speeds.
kind of an expensive way to resolve my problems but i think i might hang onto the Pro for the extra space and upgradability of the unit, that is as soon as i can find a replacement PSU.
cheers.
